Stella McCartney loves the bare-faced look, but when it’s the last day of Paris Fashion Week, even dreamy models look a little worn down. That’s easy enough to fix with foundation and moisturizer—especially with legendary Pat McGrath as your makeup mistress—but this month’s Stella show had an added challenge. Since catwalkers like Dilone and Nova Orchid had to dance, sing, and throw their hands in the air for McCartney’s grand finale, their nails had to look perfect… even though the designer wanted them totally plain.
Enter Alex Falba, a Parisian nail technician who’s done the digits of Bella Hadid, Felicity Jones, and Alexa Chung. Known as The Nail Alchemist, Falba applied one coat of OPI Infinite Shine primer, a nude glaze, then a coat of Infinite Shine Gloss to each model. (Since McCartney’s cast is always a rainbow of skin tones, she chose a sheer shade with pink undertones to suit every model’s color palette.)
Combined with the shorter, rounded shape sported by the models, the pink-and-shiny combo functioned as a kind of contouring effect on the models’ manicures, drawing light to the center of each nail and away from raw cuticles, chapped skin, and other side effects of fashion week / life in general.
Two good things about this shine-and-gloss duo in particular: They’re sold as a set, so for $20, you can get both. Just like all of McCartney’s clothes and accessories, they’re vegan, and have never been tested on animals. (Just models and very tired ELLE.com editors.)
