Tyler’s Favorite Neutral Nail Polish

While I look forward to warmer weather for a number of reasons, sunny days do pose a number of problems for me — namely, what am I supposed to do with my nails? The dark colors of fall and winter just feel wrong when the sun is shining, and I am not into your standard issue neons and bright pinks. I do like a good pastel, but I’m also lazy when it comes to changing my mani, which means sometimes, I want a classic neutral color that still looks polished. Enter: Chanel’s Particulière. Its origins are Chanel’s Spring 2010 fashion show — one of the all-time greatest Chanel runways, set in a barn with Lily Allen performing “It’s Not Fair” — for which Peter Philips conceived a lovely, minky, gray-brown shade that works as well with denim shorts and tees as it does floral dresses.

Listen, I realize there’s nothing particularly sexy or exciting about a basic, but sometimes, you just gotta go back to what feels right. And what feels right is Particulière. After all, it did once inspire months-long wait lists; thankfully, it became a Chanel staple you can get your hands on today.

Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Color in “Particulière,” $28, available at Nordstrom.
