Man City star Gabriel Jesus ‘thought the Premier League would be harder’

The Brazilian arrived in English football during the winter transfer window and settled quickly, netting seven times in 11 appearances for the Blues

Gabriel Jesus expected the Premier League to “be harder” after completing a high-profile move to Manchester City.

The 20-year-old forward completed a switch to the Etihad Stadium during the winter transfer window, with City having agreed a £27 million deal in August 2016.

The Brazilian settled quickly into new surroundings, netting three times before an untimely injury halted his progress.

Clichy confirms he will leave Man City

Jesus returned to the side for a Manchester derby date in late April and added another four efforts to his tally before the English top-flight campaign came to a close.

On his early experiences, a man with four goals in six appearances for his country told ESPN Brasil: “I thought it would be harder.

“It hasn’t been easy, for sure, I changed my life completely, but I’ll never complain about it. I’m grateful for being here, realising a dream, playing in Europe.

“When I left Palmeiras, it was sad, but happy as well, with a title.”

While adjusting quickly to the demands of life in the Premier League, Jesus admits there are home comforts that he misses.

Toure: I want to retire at Man City

He is, however, being helped by the presence of fellow Brazilians in the City squad.

Jesus added: “Everybody is helping me here, Fernandinho, Fernando, but the club as well. They help my family, my friends that are here with me.

“I’m missing my mum a little, she is in Brazil with my brothers and nephews. But, when she is happy, I am too. This week we will meet and end this feeling.”
