Barcelona vs Alaves: TV channel, stream, kick-off time, odds & match preview

Luis Enrique will hope to end his reign at Camp Nou with a trophy by winning the Copa del Rey final at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday

Barcelona will be left with only the Supercopa de Espana to show for their efforts in 2016-17 if they do not beat Deportivo Alaves in the Copa del Rey final on Saturday.

Only once since Frank Rijkaard’s final season in charge have the Blaugrana failed to pick up any silverware besides the early-season Supercopa in a single campaign.

Cillessen to consider Barca exit

That was in 2013-14 under Gerardo Martino, with Barca winning La Liga in six of the other seven seasons since 2007-08 and claiming the Copa del Rey despite missing out on the title in 2011-12.

GAME PREVIEW

Neymar Barcelona La Liga

And so ends the Luis Enrique era at Barcelona; probably with a trophy, but not on the note the former midfielder would have hoped for after a stunning first season in which his team claimed every major trophy on offer in a style that rivalled the best of the Pep Guardiola years.

Three years is a pretty good lifespan for a manager at the top level nowadays, and Luis Enrique goes out with two league titles, a Champions League and a shot on Saturday at a second Copa del Rey. It is the kind of haul most coaches dream of.

But despite that relative success he leaves with many fans happy to turn the page to whatever is next, even if the prospect of Athletic Club coach Ernesto Valverde taking the reins does not seem totally inspiring.

The next few years are going to be difficult to navigate for Barcelona; they are going to need to continue to get younger in defence and midfield as well as finding a way to bring Neymar to the fore in a manner that complements Lionel Messi and also persuades the Brazilian his long-term future is at Camp Nou.

Beyond their biggest stars, Real Madrid have been able to count on mid-20s players such as Isco, Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Raphael Varane this season while Paco Alcacer, Andre Gomes and Arda Turan have largely flopped in Catalonia.

Injecting the group with some new life in one way or another will be a key task for Valverde or whoever else steps into the Camp Nou dugout next.
